30 Great Small Colleges for ENFJ Personality Types

By Kristen Fescoe
Published October, 2015

On a quest for the ideal college for the ENFJ personality type? Then you probably know about the Myers Briggs Type Indicator Test (MBTI), a commonly used personality measure that has been proven both for reliability and validity. There are several uses for this test, including background checks, psychological evaluations, new employee screenings and many more. The Myers Briggs is a personality inventory stemming from the research of world-renowned psychologist Carl Jung. According to Jung’s theory, there are many nuances to behavior that underlie the way that people think, act and perceive the world. The MBTI uses a series of questions to determine your tendencies in four unique areas of measurement. These include:

Favorite world: Do you favor the outer world or your own inner world? This is called Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I).

Information: Do you prefer the basic information you take in or do you prefer to interpret and add meaning? This is called Sensing (S) or Intuition (N).

Decisions: When making decisions, do you look first at logic and consistency or at the people and special circumstances? This is called Thinking (T) or Feeling (F).

Structure: When encountering the outside world, do you prefer to have decisions made or stay open to new information and options? This is called Judging (J) or Perceiving (P).

These four measures then determine your Personality Type, which is expressed as a code with four letters. There are 16 personality types that make up the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator “type table,” each with its very unique set of characteristics, preferences and strengths. There are four groupings of personality types labeled Analysts, Diplomats, Sentinels, and Explorers.

ENFJ Personality Types

The ENFJ Personality is referred to as “The Protagonist” and considered a Diplomat. These are natural born leaders with a high levels of both passion and charisma. Only about 2 percent of the population has this unique Myers Briggs Personality type. ENFJs tend to speak up for others and feel a strong pull towards altruistic actions. Some of their best attributes include their charisma, natural leadership abilities, confidence, motivation to organize and lead others, and excellent problem solving skills. They are people who can be overly idealistic and are sometimes too selfless and too sensitive. They may have fluctuating self-esteems and sometimes struggle when making difficult decisions. Some of the careers for ENFJ learners are religious leader, minister, public health worker, counselor, health educator, events coordinator, politics, coaching and teaching.

Best Majors for the ENFJ Personality

Each of the Myers Briggs Personality types has a number of career options that are best suited for their specific personality characteristics. ENFJs who choose to major in one of these ideal areas will have the highest levels of academic and job success and satisfaction. The ENFJ is someone who has natural passion and charisma and loves to lead others. They are altruistic people who have an innate ability to speak up for others and motivate those around them. They are tolerant of others and tend to be extremely reliable people. This blend of traits lends itself to successful careers as coaches, religious leaders, teachers, counselors and public health professionals. Each of these career options allows the ENFJ personality type to lead, while also helping those around them.

Qualities of the Best Colleges for the ENFJ Personality

For each of the unique Myers Briggs personalities there is a learning environment that will most ideally allow them to use their individual strengths and interests. An ENFJ will benefit from a learning environment that is not too restrictive. A smaller learning environment is ideal so they have ample opportunities to put their leadership skills to work. In order to be considered for this list, schools must have undergraduate enrollment rates of less than 10,000 students. Finding a college that allows them to pursue their natural sense of altruism is also important, therefore a college with a reputation for philanthropy is a great option. It is important for the ENFJ to find a school where they can pursue a career in education, coaching, the ministry, or public health.

Methodology

This list outlines 30 colleges that provide the kind of environment that will strongly suit the ENFJ personality.
